Mystical Metis: Envision A Strong Indigenous Economy

Small Business Canada

Path of Healing

Samaria Cardinal is on the path of healing. She is a proud Metis, Blackfoot, Norwegian/Scottish descendant and a proud citizen of the Metis Nation of Alberta who experienced extreme trauma growing up.

Samaria led a life of mental health issues, addiction, and homelessness, was misdiagnosed with an illness that cost her 15 years of her life and treatments that had long-lasting negative effects.

On her recovery journey, she learned many different healing modalities to heal herself and returned to her Indigenous culture and traditions. Today, she continues her healing process and focuses on living and giving back to her community.

Samaria Cardinal does public speaking engagements on spirituality, motivation, overcoming addiction, mental health, and homelessness. With her example of making the impossible possible, she provides hope for those who think living a happy life is impossible.

Craft Meet Cost

Samaria Cardinal is a university social work student, patient advocate, and owner of Mystical Metis.

When Samaria found it difficult to find beautiful high-quality Indigenous artist-designed items that are priced appropriately, she decided to bring a change to it.

Mystical Metis is a 100% Indigenous student-owned and operated retail company that deals with products handmade and manufactured by Indigenous artists. They carry First Nation, Metis, and Inuit artist designs.

Mystical Metis envision a strong Indigenous economy through supporting artists and reconciliation actions.

They are on a mission to build bridges between cultures by welcoming visitors to explore their world and Indigenous ways through art and conversation.

Mystical Metis holds their company values at the core of their operations. They are inclusive and accepting, welcoming everyone into their store to experience and learn about their heritage, traditions, and cultures.

As an authentic brand, they invite visitors to experience their Indigenous ways of life through art, appropriately and respectfully sharing elements of their culture that are true to their heritage.

They share and listen to each other’s knowledge, stories, and experiences to help each other learn and grow while demonstrating respect and appreciation for each other and their culture.

Mystical Metis ensures superior customer service and strives to delight each customer with their service.

Standing Ethical

Samaria considered it essential to support Indigenous artists and did not want to carry items from companies that had appropriated or stolen Indigenous designs.

Mystical Metis is the only Metis store in southern Alberta and deals with a combination of handmade and manufactured items created by First Nations, Metis, and Inuit artists on the website. They are also open to partnerships with Indigenous artists and ensure that all artists receive a percentage of the sales.

Their products are available on the Mystical Metis website, which accepts orders 24 hours a day. In addition, they offer pickup at the store, free delivery in Calgary with an order over $40, and international shipping.

Mystical Metis is a member of Indigenous Tourism Alberta and a certified Indigenous business through the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.

Since its inception, Mystical Metis has been through many changes. What initially began as a service-based business morphed over time to offer products. For more information about their products, visit their website at https://mysticalmetis.ca/
