Obsidi- A Marketplace for Black Professionals by Black Professionals

Small Business Canada

In their Black History Month 2022 report, Statistics Canada stated that the Black population accounts for 3.5% of Canada’s total population and 15.6% of the population defined as a visible minority. A closer examination of the statistics reveals that Black persons between the ages of 25 and 59 had a lower employment rate than the general population. In 2016, the employment rates for Black men and women were 78.1 percent and 71.0 percent, respectively, compared to 82.6 percent and 75.5 percent for their non-Black counterparts. Employment thus is a key issue facing Black people in Canada.

These figures demonstrate that, in comparison to the other demographic communities in Canada, the Black community needs more support and encouragement. A race with a history of being subjected to discrimination is compelled to defend itself in such circumstances through a strong bond of community efforts that guarantee the growth, development, and success of each other by establishing platforms that ease their difficult path through support and guidance.
